Yesterday we went out to Mont St. Michel. It's gorgeous. The view is amazing and the castle part is pretty cool. I loved watching the tide come in. That was cool. It was also extremely windy. I wasn't so sure I wouldn't lose my hat!
Mont St. Michel starts its history all the way back to 709 when a small church there was consecrated by Aubert, Bishop of Avranches. Then a community of Benedictines settled on the rocks in 966 and the island's population kept growing from there. Read about its history here.

We stayed in this quaint little hotel on the island called the Hotel Du Guesclin.
Normally, you are are required to leave the island at night, but if you stay in a hotel you can remain after all the other tourists have left at the end of the day. We had to go up a bunch of stairs to get to our hotel, but it was cute. The town was old-fashioned like Rothenburg kind of. We ate lunch at our hotel (there were 2 restaurants in the building). In the 1st floor we had the most amazing mussels. They were soo good in a cream sauce mmmmmm.
Dinner wasn't as good as our lunch...
We tried the 2nd restaurant in the hotel and saw some French people eating what looked like a delicious seafood from the tray across the room. So, we told our waiter, just bring us whatever they're having! What we got was a seafood tray, complete with cold shrimp, crayfish, crab, snails, and oysters. Oh, and everything still had eyes.
I don't think it actually would have tasted so bad... had the food been warm and not cold.
We weren't overly pleased with our dinner.
We enjoyed the rest of our evening wandering the Island and exploring.
